The first projects are simply the best I think, nothing like seeing that pattern come to life! The dress sounds so cute, Marie, you'll need to dig up a picture and share.

I remember my first sewing project was in 8th grade home ec class - a dress with a pin-tuck bodice. OMG. It was cute, but I struggled. Never did get good with a machine, but I love hand stitching!

Update: I was just at Michael's craft store the other day and found they sell spools of a metallic thread in the jewelry section that could work in place of Lion Brand Lamé thread. It came in gold and silver tones.

Hi Terri,

I used Lion Brand Lame thread:
http://www.lionbrand.com/yarns/lame.htm
Unfortunately, it looks like they're phasing that line out. :-(

Aunt Lydia's brand has some silver cotton thread, the kind with the silver filament running through it. That could work as well. Royal brand (if it is still around) and Knit-Cro-Sheen from J&P Coats also have a silver/filament crochet cotton.

Hope that helps!

Yeah, you can save some cash in making your own embellishments. You can watch videos of how origami folds are done and made as embellishments for their scrapbook.
