I actually discovered this project last year and had a fun afternoon creating them with my grandson, Chase. We had been collecting stuffed monkeys as part of a Keith Urban fan group to donate to children’s hospitals and wanted to have a special message to go with each of our donations. This craft really coordinated with the monkey drive and was a delight to create.
- Brown and green paint
- Light brown paper
- Googly eyes
- Heart stickers
- Black sharpie
- White Card Stock
Depending on the age of your little ones, let them paint their four fingers and the palm of their hand with brown paint and press it on a white sheet of card stock paper. Make sure NOT to do the thumb! Cut out a tail, head, nose, and ears with the brown paper. Paint the monkey’s face with the brown paint as well. Glue on the tail, head, nose, ears and googly eyes. Take a black sharpie and draw a nose and mouth.
Use green squeeze paint (we used green glitter glue) to make vines and let the kids add heart stickers hanging down from it. Finish off your handcrafted masterpiece with the quote “I love hangin’ with you!” for some very special Valentines.
